Hydrological Services including Weir Design, Installation and Configuration

The floods of 2009 and the increasing pressures we experience to meet drinking water demands are just two examples of how important it is that we effectively manage our water resources.

River flow measurement and assessment is necessary for the efficient management of national water resource programs, including flood management, water quality and discharge regulation to name but a few. Part any effective river catchment management strategy is the monitoring of river flow. Flow data gathered from rivers and streams provide the information that enables responsible organisations to make sound management decisions, such as determining flood risk and river water quality.

BEC work within a team of specialists and technology providers. We use a patented design of pre-cast weirs that are easily installed in the river, and minimise the impact to the river bed and fisheries. These weirs have been supplied and installed in over 30 sites - in river catchment areas across Ireland, including the Barrow, Nore, Blackwater, Suir and Lee.

These weirs provide high quality, reliable and effective service to clients including Teagasc, the EPA, Local Authorities and private industry for a variety of purposes, including hydrometric programs, water quality assessments, flood risk assessments and IPC / Discharge licence conditions.

BEC also provide a suite environmental and hydrological consultancy services, tailored to weir installations and river monitoring programs. These include:
